The film revolves around the life of ‘Ven Buddadassi’. His spiritual journey faces a major crisis with his maternal parents becoming ill due to a severe sickness. He is faced with no option but to give up his robes in order to help out his ailing parents. The senior monks condemn his actions and turn him in to the laughing stock among the monk community. Free from spiritual commitments, he faces another major crisis as a young, rural beauty called Seedevi falls in love with his serene ways. The film unravels around this fascinating storyline. At a time where everyone is ridiculing the extravagant ways of contemporary Buddhist monks, the film hopes to peek in to their lives and look at the dilemma from their perspective.
An apt foil of senior and young actors has contributed to the film. Veterans Joe Abeywickrama and Irangani Serasinghe act as the parents of Ven Buddassi. Promising actor Sudarshna Bandara plays the main role as Ven Buddassi.
“Sudarshana’s performance is tremendous. I felt he did full justice to the role and performed his part better than I ever expected. He showed great potential and talent,” director Kumarasiri said.
The rest of the cast include, W. Jayasiri, Mahendra Perera, Malkanthi Jayasinghe, Lochana Imashi, Nimal Chandrasiri, Ruwan Dinesh, Manori Wimalathunga, Gamini Ambalangoda, Jeevan Haduneththi, Damayanthi Perera and Kumara Abeywardane.
Though Abinikmana is Kumarasiri’s first reel ride. However he is not an amateur to the field of Art. He has already claimed great critical acclamation through stage dramas such as Loka Dekai Eka Minihai, Dadin Bidin Don, Ha Ha Landey, Devlo Dhoni, Uththamacharaya, Ley Kandulu Dahadiya and Biso, Sinhala Ahasa.
